A low maintenance, environmentally friendly school building.

Our Manurewa High School project is a new build of nine classrooms a library, amenities and technology spaces. The design encompasses a warm roof, robust insulation, double glazed joinery, exterior louvres and automated skylights. Sitting on a half-metre thick raft slab, it is a naturally temperature controlled, low maintenance, environmentally friendly school building. With an impressive 91% recycling rate across the project, it was also a sustainable build.

The classrooms are open plan with smaller breakout rooms, complete with whiteboards, televisions, and acoustically lined walls, providing a realistic office-style environment for the school’s Business Academy.

The project included the construction of a new pump room to bring the old school pool into the modern age, providing environmentally friendly heating and filtration systems. We also completed other small projects around the school economically while we were on site.

Our team worked closely with the school to deliver a number of community engagement initiatives, helping the students to build a greenhouse in the school vegetable garden, hosting tours through the site for staff, students and other interested groups, donating leftover building materials, and awarding tertiary scholarships to senior students who are interested in a career in construction.

Despite the challenges of lockdowns, building supply shortages and operating in a live school environment, we completed the project six weeks ahead of schedule.
